Danny is Gone

Danny left today to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  There is no place I would rather have him be, but I started missing him before he even left. Here are some pictures to document our final week with him. Elder Harding, you will be a fabulous missionary and I know you will be blessed. I love you, mom.

Look Who is Home

Our oldest son, Curtis has successfully completed a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We went to pick him up in Peru and got back on Saturday. It has been such a joy and a blessing to have him home. He will start BYU in January and I can't wait to spend the next few months with him before he leaves. Curtis is without a doubt my favorite oldest son, what can I say :).

His homecoming is this Sunday and we would love to have you join us.

Sing Roger Sing

Recently, Roger had the opportunity to sing for the Priesthood session of General Conference. I thought long and hard about sneaking in the back to cheer him on. But then I realized that really wouldn't be appropriate seeing as I am a woman and secondly they wouldn't appreciate the flash photography because you know I wouldn't be able to stop taking pictures. If you are wondering which one is Roger look for the handsome on the top row (I hear that is where they put the most handsome men). Go Roger, I love you!

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are Christians. We believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and follow His teachings. We are not a cult. Learn more at www.mormon.org.

DIAMOND

When you hit the diamond rank it is a HUGE deal. It means that you have truly proven yourself to be an effective leader. You have the ability to manage and lead a successful team. Recently Kirk and Jen Hamilton achieved this great rank! We celebrated by taking them to dinner at the Olive Garden. We did our best to dress them up as diamonds!

My Miracle Baby

This is our miracle baby, probably not what you were expecting to see when you saw the title "miracle baby," but the fact that she is alive is completely miraculous. First of all, I have to tell you that the momma kitty is the best mom ever! I often times see her wandering the garage with kittens in tow, teaching them tricks and secrets of the garage and how to stay safe, it is SO cute.

A few days ago Roger was heading out into the garage and accidentally stepped on this kitty and killed it. To say he felt horrible would be an understatement. I am sure that Roger was doing a favor for me some how, whether it be taking out the trash or getting something from my car for me, and instead of moving out of his way, one of the kitties did not move. He stepped on it and it died instantly.

Roger threw the kitty in the garbage can because we were unsure of what else to do with it. The poor momma kitty was distraught and couldn't figure out where her baby had gone. The next day I asked Danny to take out the garbage for me. When he went to toss the bag in, he heard some meowing. It was the deceased kitty, no not coming back to life, but apparently we are not very good judges of what is dead and what is not. The kitty was alive and well. It did have some dried blood on her nose but she seems to be just fine.

The momma kitty has not been too receptive to the baby. She wants nothing to do with her and we are working with her to fix that. The poor baby just needs some love and attention. She is a very special kitty, obviously meant to make a family very very happy. If you know of anybody interested in loving this kitty and giving her a home, please let me know.

For your viewing pleasure, I am going to include some pictures of the other kitties. They too are looking for homes. As long as you promise to love and take care of them, they are free.

Wrestling

In case you are wondering what the funny little target is, it's a wrestling mat! My nephew Nicholas Whitehead is an amazing wrestler! He is so good that he made it to the state tournament and placed 3rd. That is amazing! It was so fun to watch him even though I always get a little nervous when their faces start to turn purple and they are contorted in a funny position. GO TEAM!

Harvest Time

I love the fall! When I have two seconds to spare, which is typically sometime between 3:00 am - 5:21 am, I like to cook. One of my close friends shares her passion for cooking with us in this fabulous .

  • 6 cups diced peeled apples (1/8 inch cubes)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter
  • 1 (1.75 ounce) package powdered fruit pectin
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 drop Cinnamon Essential Oil
  • 2 toothpicks of Clove Essential Oil

Directions

  1. In a large kettle, combine the apples, water and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until apples are soft. Stir in pectin and bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Add the sugars, cinnamon and clove and return to a rolling boil. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  2. Remove from the heat and skim off any foam. Ladle hot jam into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-in. headspace. Adjust caps. Process for 10 minutes in a boiling-water bath.

Jessica

Our niece Jessica came to live with us during her senior year of high school. It has been so much fun getting to know her and watching her make so many positive changes in her life. I love watching people learn and grow. She is one of the most amazing people I know. I thought it was really neat that Danny and Jessica were able to graduate together.

Here is a picture of Jessica playing her guitar. She is very talented.

The Flag Pole

As many of you know I like "BIG"! We decided to put a flag pole to honor our nation and our missionaries. I didn't want just your run of the mill flag pole, it has to be the biggest one that you are allowed to have. I am very proud to live in this nation and I am even more proud of my boys who are diligently serving the Lord. You will notice that there is a flag representing Peru and Guatemala. The Honduras flag will be making its debut shortly! We will fly that will pride too.

Here are some pictures that document the flag pole installation. With big flag poles comes big machinery!

What the "Fager"

Have you ever wondered what a "Fager" was? Well, I will tell you! When we lived in San Francisco, I had the pleasure of meeting one of my closest friends, Jenn Oldham (Fager). My boys affectionately say "What the Fager." She was single at the time and we met in our ward. We became very close and had a lot of fun spending time together. She moved to Utah right before we did and the friendship journey has continued. Jenn married Richard Oldham and has a beautiful little girl named Saydee. Recently they came to visit us and brought their new puppy Lucy! We used to have a pug named Guppy, so I really enjoyed meeting Lucy.

We also went on a double date to Tepanyaki. While we were waiting for our table we noticed that one of the chef's was far more entertaining than the rest. We were not so secretly hoping to get that chef and has luck had it, we did! It was a very entertaining evening and we REALLY enjoyed the food.
